BCCI willing to send the team to Sri Lanka

·      BCCI Treasurer Arun dhumal has the answer

On 17th May Indian Government has extended the lockdown for the fourth time in a row, calling it Lockdown 4.0, whereas India’s Prime Minister has said the Lockdown 4.0 will be totally new meaning a lot of relaxations to be given.

Whereas on Monday 18th May there were guidelines issued by the government of India and in context of cricket the local stadiums to be opened for the contracted players to resume training, providing that player is in Green zone. The players in red zone still can’t resume their training like in Mumbai, which is the hotspot for Covid-19. The Mumbai Cricket Association in its press release stated their will be no training arranged for players in Mumbai as the city is facing most devastating times ever.

According to MCA’s press release players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane will not be able to resume their training and without any training session, BCCI can’t organise any tour. While, other players in different parts of India might resume their training sessions in the local stadiums.

India is scheduled to travel to Sri Lanka in mid-July for the limited overs series and Sri Lankan cricket has showed its willingness to host India and in the recent e-mail sent by SLC to BCCI stating to come over for the series.

BCCI Treasurer Arun Dhumal has not ruled out the possibility of the tour, but stated “It all depends on government directives pertaining to lockdown relaxations and travel restrictions. We are open to travel if it doesn’t compromise the safety and health of our boys,”

The report also stated that, in case India tours the Island, the players must adhere to the strict rules and regulations. And there are strong chances that the matches will be hosted behind closed doors considering the safety of the fans.
