IPL ON ITS WAY….
· IPL to take place in uae which is going to kick start on 19th
September…
After ICC decided to postpone the T20 world cup which was supposed to take place down under later this year in October-November, League [IPL]. The emerging host to conduct this mega event is considered to be UAE.
There were sources of reports even before the the
ICC’s announcement that conducting a mega event such as world cup with 16 teams
was next to impossible in current crisis. With all the pieces falling into
place there are no hindrance to conduct the IPL this year as the window opens
up with no international assignments for the teams.
Last week, BCCI chairman Brijesh Patel confirmed
that IPL Governing Council will meet in coming 7-10 days to discuss the road map
to conduct IPL. He also confirmed that they have zeroed down UAE as the likely
host to conduct IPL. BCCI has also written to Indian Government seeking
permission to host the event in UAE, which hopefully be granted by the
Government soon.
Ganguly BCCI president, earlier this month said
that their 1st priority to host the IPL would be INDIA, but due to
the rapid rise in corona virus cases it’s next to impossible to host such an
event in INDIA. Earlier there were reports that UAE i.e. Emirates Cricket Board
and SLC i.e. Sri Lankan Cricket Board has expressed their desires to host the
tournament and BCCI has zeroed down to UAE to host the tournament.
Earlier today Emirates Cricket Board confirmed
that they have received the letter of intent from BCCI for hosting the
tournament and are now waiting for the Indian Government to grant the
permission which would ink the final deal. They also said that the preparations
are in full flow to conduct the event.
The tournament would kick start on 19th
September and the final to be played on 8th November which makes it
51 days meaning the entire number of matches to be played i.e. 60 matches. This
entire 60 matches to be played in 3 stadiums they are Sheikh Zayed Cricket
Stadium [Abu Dhabi], Dubai International Stadium [Dubai] and Sharjah Cricket
Stadium [Sharjah].
