· BCCi president
ganguly positive about ipl2020
IPL 2020 which was postponed indefinitely for the time being due
Covid-19 pandemic, is suddenly making noises that’s due world’s richest
cricketing board President Sourav Ganguly is positive about IPL 2020. He said
that he is working on each and every scenario make this happen.
The reason why BCCI is not backing out of IPL 2020 because it involves
a truck load of money involved in it i.e. 4000cr which BCCI can’t afford to lose,
which in turn would be used to develop the facilities in Indian Cricket.
ICC world T20 is scheduled to be held down under later this year, which
is unlikely to go ahead as planned but it’s not official by ICC, they are
working on plans to conduct the tournament as planned. BCCI is planning to use
that window of ICC world T20 if its deferred for this year. BCCI cannot plan
this for now as ICC is yet to decide fate of ICC world T20.
There were speculation by Australian media
that Cricket Australia is not ready to host the world cup this year, ICC has
conducted 3 official meetings but they were unable to decide the fate of T20
world cup. There is another meeting scheduled in July and it’s likely to have an
answer about the world cup.
As soon as ICC comes up with an answer,
the road for BCCI would be clear as crystal and according to ICC’s decision
BCCI would pick a window even though conducting a mini-IPL would be also an
option.
Ganguly has also confirmed that the IPL if
it happens would be behind closed doors. The Covid-19 situation in India is
getting worse day by day and with the easing of restrictions in order of Indian
economy has also helped Covid-19 to spread more. Meanwhile, India is standing 4th
in the list of most affected countries by corona virus. The fate of IPL will
mostly be dependent when India would hit the peak for Covid-19.
Earlier, there were reports that Srilankan
Cricket Board [SLC] has proposed to held the IPL 2020 in their country along
with it UAE has also put its wish forward of conducting IPL 2020 recently. When
asked, Ganguly came up with “would do every possible thing that IPL is held in
India. We appreciate other boards coming forward, it would be our last option
as the players has to undergo 14 day quarantine period if held overseas.
